About Me
I’m a homeschool mama just like you. I've been married to my husband for almost twenty-six years, and we have six kids (four through adoption). Three (almost four!) of our children have graduated from our homeschool.
I love studying and memorizing God's Word. I have a crazy obsession with spreadsheets & happen to think spreadsheets make the world a better place. (Haha!) I adore books, and I have a degree in Culture, Literature and the Arts from the University of Washington, Bothell. (Side note: I went to the University of Oregon my freshman year, so I consider myself a Duck, not a Husky. Sorry, UW fans!).

This is our family, minus our third son and his wife, at our church's Christmas service in 2024. Our kids are currently 23, 22, 21, 17, 15, and 9. Our first grandchild is due to be born this summer (2025)! We are so excited!
While my days homeschooling our three sons are over, I am still actively homeschooling our three girls: a senior, a sophomore, and a fourth grader (Forms 6, 4, and 2). I bring all three girls together for some of our subjects, and then the older girls & our youngest daughter do some independent work and separate work with me, as well.
It all began with STAR Homeschool Community
In January 2022, I asked my husband if he was okay with me doing something BIG that God was putting on my heart to do: start a homeschool community. My husband gave his blessing, and I started planning!
I spent the summer of 2022 conducting several family interviews, and then we all came together for our first picnic gathering in August. It was so cool to see God bring together all of these wonderful families in our town of Lynchburg, Virginia!
We met every Wednesday, for 28-weeks of the school year, and we had classes for Forms 1 through 5. All of the students participated in hymn time, Bible study, apologetics, tea time, and enrichment (composer, artist, and poet studies). Younger students had a project time, story time (or read aloud discussion time), nature study, and memory work. Older students read books at home and discussed them in class, and during year two, participated in science classes with labs, as well.

The first year (2022-2023), we had 4 tutors, 34 students, and 9 children in the nursery.
The second year (2023-2024) we had 7 tutors, 41 students, and 9 children in the nursery.
In the Spring of 2024, it became clear that God was closing the doors for the full STAR program. I was so sad & I didn't understand what God was doing, but I trusted Him. I planned for a smaller program; just for the older students. Our main tutor for Forms 4 and 5 was moving away, and I loved the idea of being in class with my girls, so I became the Form 4 & 5 tutor.
In June of 2024, God made it clear why He closed the doors for the full program: He was bringing another child into our family through adoption (you can see our newest & youngest daughter in the photo above). Go God! We are amazed to see how He works things out for our good as we continue to love and trust Him!
Leading a small Form 4 & 5 class, with just four girls, in 2024-2025, has been such a blessing to our family. I'm grateful I got to teach our girls and two friends each week. What a sweet experience!
I originally created these reading plans for STAR families.
I made custom family guides for all of the families who joined us in year 1. Now, I am so excited to share these reading plans here with you!
Will there be an in-person STAR Homeschool Community in Lynchburg in the 2025-2026 school year?
No, because our family will, Lord willing, be joining a homeschool co-op in the Knoxville area in Tennessee--because we are hoping to move there over the summer of 2025!
I plan to keep updating this site with more and more resources, to bless other homeschool families!
